In 2014 Oak Ridge Woodlands Area Little League won a national safety award for its handling of two emergency situations. Two individuals fell victim to cardiac arrest, a coach and an umpire. Thanks to the league’s emergency preparedness, both individuals survived. The league had invested in AEDs and ensured that its officials were trained to operate them. Many leagues are following in Oak Ridge’s footsteps by investing in AEDs and training for their officials. Having an AED readily available can save a life during an unforeseen emergency. Preparation takes time, commitment, and education.
