One of the most important pieces of equipment for transport is the ventilator. Designed for patient use during movement from one location to another, transport ventilators come with a variety of features and specifications that meet the demands placed on them.
Transport Ventilator Specifications
While all transport ventilators are designed to be lightweight and portable, several specifications are particular to different types of ventilators. Some are powered pneumatically, meaning they work using air power while others use electricity. Some models are designed for adult use while those specifically for EMS use can be utilized by both adults and children. Ventilators can be adjusted using tidal volume as well as time while other models are equipped with automated functions that allow them to adjust to the patient's needs automatically. Another specification that is often discussed is the inclusion of a CPAP function within the ventilator. Designed for use by less severely impaired patients, the CPAP function allows for further adjustments in patients that require little help to breathe.
