A gentleman was lying on the ground, unresponsive, at a gas station until Marine Corps Cpl. Mathew Ubl came on to the scene. Ubl immediately initiated CPR and chest compressions. He continued to do so for 15 minutes until first responders arrived. Ubl saved the gentleman’s life and was awarded a commendation medal. The Marine had learned CPR from the first aid lessons he was taught in basic training. This instance is just one example of the lifesaving importance of CPR and first aid training.
